March prices 'dip apart from Scotland'

House prices dipped during March this year, figures released by the
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) have
suggested.
Of the surveyors polled by the organisation, 78.5 per cent stated
that there had been a drop rather than a rise in house prices in
the month.
However, homes in Scotland appeared to stay immune from the
problems affecting the rest of the UK, as four per cent more of
those questioned in the country stated that prices had risen
instead of decreasing.
Generally, the industry has taken a knock in recent times,
suggested spokesman at RICS Jeremy Leaf.
"Sentiment is at a very low ebb and will continue to remain
depressed while the economy suffers from this unique liquidity
blight. The slowdown in prices is directly attributable to a lack
of available finance which has hit demand," he asserted.
Banks were recently urged to cut their interest rates by the
chancellor Alistair Darling.
